Breaking Character, 2025
Breaking Character reflects on the fragility of moments—how they slip between presence and memory, ephemeral and lasting. Borrowing its title from theatre, it highlights the instant an illusion falters, revealing that authenticity is not fixed but a shifting construct shaped by reality and perception.
The works examine how fleeting experiences leave lasting imprints, how the past is reconstructed in fragments, and whether something remains true to itself even as it inevitably changes.
“AM” and “PM” are two lightboxes that capture sunlight streaming through a window at different times of a day. Tracing the contours of light and shadow, the panels freeze a moment even after it has passed—like memory, detached from its origin.
“Home, Sweet Home” mimics a children’s play rug, recreated as a mandala made entirely of colored sand. It collapses at the slightest touch, questioning whether something vanishes when it falls apart or if its essence endures in another form.
(Breaking Character, a solo exhibition that took place at discover Vienna, was curated by Hanna Gassner)
